Membership is Free. Disabled people have always found it difficult to make their voices heard in society. This problem is as apparent in Newcastle as everywhere else in Britain, but the City of Newcastle has an energetic, vocal and tireless group of disabled people who are working to destroy the barriers which prevent disabled people from living the full and independent lives to which they are entitled. The Forum is made up of disabled individuals, many of whom represent other organisations, self help groups, carers and people who wish to see disabled people take an active role as citizens of Newcastle upon Tyne. The Forum draws its members from, people with any physical or sensory impairment, carers of disabled people and other interested people, groups or bodies. This multi-disability approach, and the Social Model of Disability are central to the Forum's philosophy and activities.
