Celebrating the history of NDF
In January 2000, the Forums Millennium Exhibition / 10 Year Celebration Group worked extremely hard to produce a photographic exhibition mounted on display boards to highlight the achievements and work of the Forum over the last 11 years. Subjects of the display included individuals who have played a significant part in the Forums success. There were also photographs of facilities which have improved disability access throughout the City e.g. physical features such as automatic doors in commercial premises, tactile pedestrian paving at crossing points, ramps and dropped kerbs.
The exhibition also showed photographs of the disability awareness training that Newcastle Disability Forum members provides to Hackney Carriage drivers. The photographs were complemented with printed material in accessible formats including large print, Braille, audio-tape and ethnic minority languages.
The exhibition was launched
at a celebration luncheon which was held in the Civic Centre. Presentations
were by long-standing allies of the Forum: Mary Kelly (Disability North) and
Norman Hodgeson. The Chair of the Forum gave a significant address about the
importance of the Forum and our good relationship with local and statutory authorities.
The exhibition toured local libraries, schools, community centres and other
public venues throughout the City.
